WASHINGTON TERRITORY ROAST est. 1853

Back in the day of the trailblazers, when wagon trains were king on the Oregon trail — the Washington Territory (1853 – 1889) was forged. Settlers packed their own provisions, campfires were common and people drank their coffee black.  The Washington Territory Roast celebrates the strong spirit and determination of that time and the energy of those who heeded the call to GO WEST to grow up with the country.

Washington Territory was named after the first president of the United States. At its largest boundaries in 1859 it included all of present day Washington, all of Idaho, portions of Wyoming west of the continental divide, and parts of Northwest Montana. By 1869 the First Transcontinental Railroad was completed and trips West changed - they were substantially faster and cheaper and by then, coffee could be had in the dining car or at one of the railroad’s water stops. In 1889 the Territory (in its present day boundaries) was admitted to the Union as the State of Washington.

An award winning Sumatra coffee that is smooth, full bodied and low in acidity roasted by Caffe Appassionato exclusively for Made In Washington. Whole Bean 10 oz.

About The Maker

About Caffe Appassionato

(Seattle, Washington)

To refuse or neglect to give coffee to their wives was a legitimate cause for divorce among Turks. The men made promise when marrying never to let their wives be without coffee. "That," says Fulbert de Monteith, “is perhaps more prudent that to swear fidelity.’”

Founded in 1990 by Seattle native Tucker McHugh, Caffe Appassionato is among the Pacific Northwest’s premier roasting companies for fine gourmet coffee products. Caffe’s products distinguish themselves by being superior in quality, full-bodied flavor, and exceptionally low in acids. Their success originated in the Pacific Northwest, but Caffe Appassionato coffee is enjoyed in coffee shops around the world.

Caffe Appassionato has partnered with Made In Washington for over 20 years!
