About Kri Kri Studio
(Seattle, Washington)
Seattle native Kristin Nelson studied weaving in Sweden, then earned her degree in ceramic sculpture from the University of Washington. She has been a ceramic artist ever since. "VIT”, the Swedish word for white, refers to the signature white line detailing on her range of handmade lamps and vases produced at kRI kRI Studio. Nelson shapes modern forms in clay using the coil and pinch technique to make molds for casting her products. This results in a subtly dimpled surface in which the “artist’s hand” is visible. The thin, raised, white stripes are applied by hand, adding texture and further ensuring that each piece is unique. VIT ceramics focus on form rather than pattern. The sensibility is Scandinavian, practical yet soft. When she is not in the studio, kRi kRi, as Kristin is also known, likes to go adventuring in her kayak.
