"Our Local Flavor"

SUBMITTED BY: Kristi Thorndike-Kent | Chuckanut Mountain, Bellingham, WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Sometimes, but very rarely, e get a bunch of snow AND the sun comes out! Just beautiful!

SUBMITTED BY: Larry Winebrenner | Washington Park, Anacortes WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: An older couple on the beach in Washington Park, Anacortes WA looking at the sunset and a young couple on the dock enjoying a quiet moment.

SUBMITTED BY: Kristi Thorndike-Kent | Chuckanut Mountain, Bellingham, WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: We live in a beautiful part of the world, with wildlife all around!

SUBMITTED BY: LAWATHA WISEHART | Colville, WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: We moved to NE WA for the tranquility, and the four seasons. You can certainly find all four seasons here on White Mud Lake, just 5 miles east of Colville, WA. I think Fall is my favorite, though I say that about every season.

SUBMITTED BY: Tom Gubala | Mt. Rainier National Park

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: A friend and I hiked up to a vista point near Chinook Pass in the dark using headlamps in order to photograph the sunrise hitting the mountain. Wildflowers were profuse on the Naches Peak Loop Trail.

SUBMITTED BY: Robert Rhodes | Cline Spit -- Sequim, WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: When I first observed the eagle, I was disappointed that the evening light was not coming from behind me. Then I realized, I had just been presented with an incredible sunset-silhouette photo opportunity. Just as I snapped the photo, the eagle raised its wings and launched itself into the air. A beautiful sunset and an eagle in flight. Yep; those things are certainly Washington flavors.

SUBMITTED BY: Al Hague | Spokane

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Harvest time in Spokane where great crops are grown by local farmers

SUBMITTED BY: Mary Newman | Lake Union, Seattle

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Watching the Duck Dodge sailboat races on a sunny Tuesday night, from the shores of Gasworks Park brought back a lot of memories. I used to race out there myself with friends many years ago...

SUBMITTED BY: Karen Mano Little | Seattle

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: This is so early 60s in Seattle where my cousins and I wait it out near my grandparents' apartments. See the new monorail and the landmark PI Globe!

SUBMITTED BY: Jennifer Taylor | North Cascades

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Lake Diablo on Route 20 is a must-see! Driving the North Cascades Hwy is an adventure in itself, but Lake Diablo is definitely the jewel of the ride. The water and views are simply breathtaking!

SUBMITTED BY: Paul Stanley | Hurricane Ridge, WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: My family and I decided to go on a day trip out to Hurricane Ridge. I ended up taking a lot of photos but this one stood out the most to me. The two deer in the photo really stood out to me as the cloud in the background highlighted them in a way. I have always loved this photo the most among my other shots and still do to this day.

SUBMITTED BY: Frank Melchior | Kerry Park

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Before sunrise, I painted the sculpture "Changing Form" with a huge flashlight during an 8 second exposure.

SUBMITTED BY: Lucy Potts | Cascade Range, Snohomish County

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: In July of this year I took my very first hike since moving to the NW. To say the hike was the most grueling one I have ever done would be the understatement of the year. Having said that, it was the most joyous and well deserved reward to reach beautiful Blanca Lake and I would recommend it to any hikers (with sturdy knee joints!).

SUBMITTED BY: Anuradha Varma | Seaward Park

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: A clear view of Mt Rainier makes me so happy. Its like this magical mountain watches over the city and its a lovely sight.

SUBMITTED BY: Deby Dixon | Reflection Lakes, Mt. Rainier

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Mt. Rainier is like the centerpiece of Washington State, it watches over us and graces us with her beauty. When she emerges around a bend or from beneath fog and clouds, the mountain never fails to capture my heart and imagination. I feel privileged to be in her presence and to capture her with my cameras.

SUBMITTED BY: Frank Melchior | Public Market

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Cold and wet it was that night, tripod just inches from the ground, trying to keep the camera dry with an umbrella and shoot at the same time.

SUBMITTED BY: john davis | port townsend

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: While watching the boats at the wooden boat festival I was mesmerized by a spinning kite wheel framing the boats in the harbor.

SUBMITTED BY: Ryan Brady | Deception Pass Bridge

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: A typical Deception Pass morning highlighted by a little fog and a lot of color.

SUBMITTED BY: Shelly Rowland | Sammamish, WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: I love the farmer's markets in our area with fresh, locally grown flowers. Dahlia's are one of my favorites; especially close up!

SUBMITTED BY: Bruce Couch | from about 15k' over Columbia river Gorge

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Without the Cascades and it's volcanos, we'd be Kansas. Fortunately we have the Cascades and Mt. Adams and Rainier.

SUBMITTED BY: April Lauseng | Sequim, Washington

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: A determined sunflower bursts out of a lavender field in Sequim.

SUBMITTED BY: Isobel Grad | Lopez Island

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT:

SUBMITTED BY: Amanda Cook | Seattle, WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: This shows downtown Seattle and one of many activities that can be enjoyed here.

SUBMITTED BY: amanda hubik | Mt Vernon, WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: A rainstorm early in the day might detour some folks, but feeling the damp clay squish between your bare toes is just as much fun as catching photos like this.

SUBMITTED BY: Tom Bragg | Vantage, WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Just north of I-90 you will find 16 mustangs formed of steel, racing across a ridge along the Columbia River. Thundering Hooves is a sculpture by artist David Govedare created for Washington State’s centennial celebration in 1989. A short hike to the top of the ridge offers a close up look at the incredible piece of art as well as a spectacular view of the hills and valleys along the Columbia River. Plan a stop, stretch your legs and experience a place that is truly Washington State!

SUBMITTED BY: Christine Quetola | George Town

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: We do have sunny days in Seattle. Along with our famous rain it's the prefect combination for a garden. Just like this cute parking lot garden in George Town..

SUBMITTED BY: Andrew Repcik | Nisqually Wildlife Refuge

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: We are lucky to reside in a state with so many varied species of animals that are accessible...

SUBMITTED BY: Ryan Brady | Coupeville, WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: While looking for a nice salmon breakfast in Penn Cove, this Bald Eagle has had enough with being attacked from a jealous Raven. This is a picture of him spreading his wings trying to appear bigger to this aggressive Raven.

SUBMITTED BY: Andrew Repcik | Tumwater, WA

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Even in the middle of highly populated cities, Washington is still able to maintain natures beauty for its residence.

SUBMITTED BY: Robin Rasmussen | United States

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: I love this photo because it shows so much of Washington. The water, the Evergreen trees, the weather (in this case fog), and the sheer beauty of this wonderful state.

SUBMITTED BY: Cherie Kukhahn | Bellingham, WA.

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Crabbing in Washington is great! So much fun to go with friends on a boat and pull the pots full of crab. Fresh crab is the best too with just melted butter.

SUBMITTED BY: Jeffrey Clark | Samish Island

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: This photo was taken on the Fourth of July. It was mostly a cloudy day as I sat with family and friends. We were watching the fireworks and next thing you know the sunset erupted from behind the clouds. It was beautiful, specialy with the fireworks going off at the same time. A perfect evening in the San Juan Islands.

SUBMITTED BY: Tom Bragg | San Juan Island

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: West of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island is Lime Kiln Point State Park. Whether you want a leisurely hike, a quiet picnic, or the perfect land-based setting for whale watching May through September; this park is the perfect place for a serene getaway. Bring your camera and stay late to view another spectacular Washington coast sunset!

SUBMITTED BY: Marla Todd | Tacoma

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: When I left Washington at age 14, I often imagined this most beautiful of mountains and hoped I could one day return to my home state. It took thirty years to make it back and not a day goes by that I don't look at my mountain. And every day there is something new to see like various cloud formations, its slow disappearance into the night sky, the degree of snow melt or a red tail hawk gliding by. This particular evening in July, the moon happened to ascend over the mountain and I had to preserve the moment.

SUBMITTED BY: Kendra McCollow | Deception Pass Washington

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Wonderful summer day watching the waves crashing against the rocks and the cars driving across Deception Pass. Families swimming, picnicing, fishing and enjoying a wonderful Washington summer day.

SUBMITTED BY: Kathleen Durr | Sequim,Wa.

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: The Sequim Lavender Festival takes place every July in Sequim,Wa.I love to attend seeing all of the beautiful fields of lavender. I also enjoy the culinary treats that are made using lavender. My favorite is the lavender mint ice cream .The Purple Haze Farm is one of my favorite lavender farms in the area. When I see their ice cream sign it makes my day.

SUBMITTED BY: Amanda Cerise | Oak Harbor, Wa

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT: Like generations before and generations to come, a father teaches his son the art of fishing. With over 125 miles of shoreline, Whidbey Island has an endless supply of teaching moments.
